Past Events
Four hundred years on from when the Pilgrim Fathers started their journey to America, visitors to Mayflower Wood gathered for a day of outdoor events and activities. The weather was kind, seeing the wood basking in sunshine as families came from far and wide to have a go at archery, and chance their arm in tin can alley and other traditional games. Amongst the special attractions was a stall from Immingham Museum, which gave visitors a rough guide to who the Pilgrims were and what they were fighting for, through a carefully researched exhibition. On display were garments which had been recreated faithful the original designs as well as some typical objects found in the period. There was also a re-enactment exhibition, where kids and parents could go and get a taste of what life would be like back in 1608, as well as asking the characters questions about what it was like to live life as a Pilgrim. Entertaining as well as educational, the Pilgrims Family Fun Day proved a great success, and raised over £800 for KAAG (The Killingholme Area Advisory Group) for the benefit of the local community. |
