The woodland has been developed by ConocoPhillips Humber Refinery in conjunction with the local community and has seen a vast area covering 120 acres turned into a nursery woodland. Over 67,500 trees & shrubs have been planted over a two year period starting in 2005.
There are many ways you can become part of the woodland, become a friend, join us on one of our events days, or quite simply just visit and enjoy.

Artefacts to go on show at Immingham Museum Artefacts found in Mayflower Wood back in 2005 were recently donated to the Immingham Museum, where they will be showcased for all to see.
The artefacts were found during an archaeological dig carried out on the Mayflower Wood site in 2005 before the first saplings had been planted. Finds ranging from a Medieval Rowel Spur to a Roman Dolphin Brooch dating back as far as 40AD were found in the wood during the excavation. The artefacts are being donated by ConocoPhillips to the Immingham Museum to make them accessible to all, and help show the local community some of the fabulous history in the Immingham area. Museum curator Brian Mummery was delighted to receive the artefacts. "There have been a lot of good finds, from Roman pottery to Victorian and Medieval materials. There may even be some Anglo Saxon stuff here.” "This collection will show that settlement in this area goes back quite a long time. There was life here well before the docks and the refinery were built." The exhibit is due to go on show in the museum around March/April of this year, so don’t forget check them out!

SAY IT WITH A TREE.......
Harrison Piper, along with his mum Vikki and dad Brian are both the youngest and longest fans of Mayflower Wood and to thank him the Mayflower Wood team donated a tree for his 1st birthday. Harrison celebrated his 2nd birthday recently with a trip back to the woods to visit his tree - and look how much they have both grown up! (right) Harrisons mum Vikki said "we feel so lucky to have the woods on our doorstep. We try to go for a walk at least once a week through the woods, and are often lucky to see deer, foxes and squirrels."

Trees generate oxygen and play host to a
spectacular variety of wildlife, helping
make woods such magical places. You
can say it with a tree and become
part of Mayflower Wood. We all have
occasions we wish to mark. Happy ones like
weddings and births, annual celebrations
such as birthdays or anniversaries, and
occasionally, sad ones like the passing of a
dear friend or relative. More and more people are choosing to “say it with trees” by dedicating a tree, the special gift that goes on growing, ensuring Mayflower Wood is there for future generations to enjoy. |
