28 December 2006

A Company has been presented with a national environmental award for its work in cultivating a massive woodland area.

The Mayflower Wood, planted and developed by ConocoPhillips, is the largest project of its kind in the country. As a recognition of the sustainable, environmental project, the Campaign For Rural England has awarded the company with its mark. Jenny Haynes, on behalf of the CPRE said: "The CPRE Mark is a national scheme, awarded by local CPRE groups in recognition of environmental projects making a significant contribution to a local area. Northern Lincolnshire CPRE believes that the Mayflower Wood is such a scheme because of its size, community involvement and potential long term impact on the local countryside and are pleased to present a CPRE Mark to ConocoPhillips in recognition of this."

The woodland has been developed by ConocoPhillips Humber Refinery in partnership with the local community and has seen a vast area covering 120 acres turned into a nursery woodland.

More than 67,500 trees and shrubs have been planted over a two-year period starting in 2005.
